Julian Alvarez will have a key role to play for Manchester City this season, Pep Guardiola says, after a week that has mightily impressed his new manager.

Alvarez scored on his debut against Liverpool, and looked dangerous in the friendly with Barcelona this week where he opened the scoring for City.
He came off the bench for City against Crystal Palace with the Blues trailing 2-1, and was in the heart of the action as he flicked on a cross to Phil Foden to send the ball back in for Haaland to level the scores. Alvarez then looked good on the left-wing as Foden moved inside, and Guardiola was full of praise for the Argentine after the game.

Guardiola was discussing how long it will take for Haaland to really start to click with his attacking teammates, as he said: "It's going to come. It's going to come more.
"Gundo learns it, two goals he's scored a little bit there, Gundo learned it in the middle. It's important for us to have a guy like him [Haaland], Julian as well, you will see when he plays. Last game in Barcelona he could have scored a hat-trick easily.
"I see in the training sessions with Julian. He does everything, a guy with an incredible sense of goal. The second goal, a cross, Julian fights because he's there, we need people there. The second ball to Phil, Phil makes a good cross and Erling finishes."
