People in Scotland claiming certain benefits are being urged to claim a devolved payment worth £25 each week for every child under the age of 16. Families who qualify for the Scottish Child Payment, which is paid every four weeks, who are also eligible for the Best Start Grant Early Learning and School Age payments, will receive them automatically without the need to apply for them separately.
Social Security Scotland tweeted earlier this week saying that First Minister Humza Yousaf has outlined that Scottish Child Payment will continue to play a significant role in tackling child poverty. It added: “Eligible families can get the payment of £100 every four weeks for each child until their 16th birthday.”
Scotland’s devolved welfare system will also notify claimants who qualify by text message when they are checking eligibility for the Best Start Grants. The move to automatic awards will mean less paperwork for tens of thousands of families and ensure that people automatically receive the support to which they are entitled.
The move builds on work already completed to make applying for Social Security Scotland’s five family payments as simple as possible. It also includes the ability to apply for all children in a household on a single form.
New statistics from the Scottish Government show that there were 184,000 children and young people getting £25 per week in Scottish Child Payment by the end of 2022. The figure includes 78,000 who have received it since the payment was extended to include children aged between six and 16 in November.
Below is everything you need to know about the benefit, you can find more information and apply directly on MyGov.Scot here.

The best way to plan your household budget for the coming months is to be aware of any notable financial events taking place, whether that's adding them to a calendar - online or paper-based - marking them in a diary or marking a pile of sticky notes and pinning them on the fridge. Knowing what to expect and when, especially as the summer holidays draw nearer, can help prevent any unwelcome financial surprises.
As crowning moments go for a beauty brand, it doesn’t get much bigger than a royal warrant. This prestigious endorsement is only handed out to an elite circle of brands, after supplying royal households for a minimum of five years in the past seven. They’re awarded across a host of industries, from home and household goods to food and drink, but of course we’re particularly intrigued by the beauty brands deemed good enough to find a space in a palace cabinet. Previously, royal warrants could only be awarded by Queen Elizabeth II or the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as King Charles III in his former capacity as the Prince of Wales. There’s no word yet on who will be dishing out the honours in the new era, but for now the late Queen’s brands get to carry the royal arms for another two years.

I am so inspired by the very difficult work being done on the front lines by our health care facilitators and hospital staff and especially by the young patients in hospitals all over the country showing up every single day, even when it’s hard, with bravery and strength. This collection is meant to remind them all HOW BIG THEIR BRAVE IS and how much we love them!”

Metacritic has confirmed it will be implementing “stricter moderation” going forward, after Horizon Forbidden West‘s Burning Shores downloadable content was review bombed due to an LGBTQ+ relationship with the game’s protagonist.Although Burning Shores holds an aggregated Metascore of 82 among critics, its user-submitted reviews score currently sits at 3.9 out of 10.While some of the negative reviews criticise the game’s story and brief length, others have scored the review negatively purely because of a dialogue option that results in a kiss between the game’s protagonist, Aloy, and her companion Seyka. The inclusion of an LGBTQ+ relationship has resulted in a number of bigoted reviews flooding the Metacritic page, with users taking aim at the game’s perceived “agendas” and “woke propaganda”.In a statement sent to Eurogamer, Metacritic and its parent company, Fandom, confirmed that it would be taking steps to crack down on the “abusive” reviews.“Fandom is a place of belonging for all fans and we take online trust and safety very seriously across all our sites including Metacritic,” wrote the site. “Metacritic is aware of the abusive and disrespectful reviews of Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores and we have a moderation system in place to track violations of our terms of use.”“Our team reviews each and every report of abuse (including but not limited to racist, sexist, homophobic, insults to other users, etc) and if violations occur, the reviews are removed.
