A pensioner who enjoyed socialising and meeting up with his friends for a drink tragically died after suffering a fall when making his way home from the pub.
Terry Kenyon, 70, was discovered by a member of the public at the bottom of a set of concrete steps nearby to his home at around 6.45pm on January 10, 2022.
He was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but his death was confirmed 'soon after his arrival', Lancs Live reports.
An inquest held on May 4 at Preston Coroner's Court heard a statement from Mr Kenyon's wife June who said that her husband would enjoy going out at the weekend.
She said that her husband had previously fallen while walking home from the pub the year before.
"Terry suffered from emphysema and he struggled to walk long distances and would get out of breath easily," Mrs Kenyon said. "He drank alcohol occasionally but would rarely go out to drink outside of the home address."
The inquest heard that on January 10 Mr and Mrs Kenyon had gone shopping in Burnley.
At around 1pm Mr Kenyon caught the bus home alone and when his wife returned home he wasn't there which 'wasn't out of character'.
Later that evening police called at the couple's home address and informed Mrs Kenyon that her husband had died. The medical cause of death was given as traumatic cervical spine injury and alcohol intoxication.
In a statement his family said Mr Kenyon's death was 'tragic' and said that while he enjoyed a drink it would be wrong to say he had a problem with alcohol.
Concluding that Mr Kenyon's death was accidental Assistant Coroner Laura Fox said: "It is clear to me that Mr Kenyon, a 70-year-old man, enjoyed socialising and drinking with his friends. He lost his balance after returning home having
