Police Scotland has launched an investigation after a pensioner died as a result of a two-car crash.
The 77-year-old passed away after being involved in a smash on the A76, near the Ayrshire village of Catrine, on Wednesday, January 4. He was driving a Vauxhall Crossland at around 7.15pm when it was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa being driven by a 30-year-old man.
Emergency services attended, with both police officers and an ambulance racing to the scene, but the pensioner was pronounced dead. The Corsa driver and a 28-year-old woman were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Hospital staff have described their conditions as serious but stable. A police probe is now underway to establish exactly what happened.
The man's death an investigation were revealed in a post on Police Scotland's Ayrshire Police Division Facebook page. Sergeant Gordon Stewart from Ayrshires Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died following this crash.
"Our investigation is ongoing and we would appeal to any witnesses, or anyone with information to contact us. We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash.
"Anyone with information should contact officers through 101 with reference 2955 of 4 January.”
