Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Premiere Online for Free Now

The first thing people will talk about when it comes to Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is its title. The new Showtime drama, which premiered April 26, isn't a revival or a spin-off of Penny Dreadful, and it isn't exactly a new chapter in an American Horror Story-type anthology, although if series creator John Logan wants to go in that direction, he's got my blessing.

And he's gonna be down there from Sunday, April 26 to Saturday, May 2? All right, Lassie. You're sure he's OK? He doesn't want us to rescue him right away? He says he's chilling? All it took to get Rory Kinnear on board for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was a two-word email subject line. Kinnear, who played Frankenstein's Creature in the first Penny Dreadful, returns for City of Angels as an entirely different character — this time, he's the doctor. It's a role that really cuts down on his time in the makeup chair, which Penny Dreadful and City of Angels creator John Logan knew would be a selling point.

Santiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is the pride of his family. As “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” opens, he is receiving his detective’s badge from the Los Angeles Police Department. Vega’s promotion is a blessing and a curse. He is charged with defending the law, but that often putting Vega at odds with his brothers Raul (Adam Rodriguez) and Mateo (Johnathan Nieves).

John Logan, the creator, writer, and executive producer of Penny Dreadful, is returning to old haunts with Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, a so-called "spiritual descendant" of the original drama.

There's a new Penny Dreadful in town — and just in time. Nearly four years after the beloved gothic horror series wrapped up its three-season run in 2016, its spirit has been reincarnated in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, premiering April 26 on Showtime.
