Penny Dreadful: City of Angels: Premiere Date, Trailer, Cast, and Everything Else to Know

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. seventh and final season is almost here, which means it's time to start counting down to the beginning of the end. All bets are off in a final season, which means we should expect Season 7 to really start swinging for the fences — and isn't that a wild idea when you consider how bonkers this show already is?

The new Showtime drama, which premiered April 26, isn't a revival or a spin-off of Penny Dreadful, and it isn't exactly a new chapter in an American Horror Story-type anthology, although if series creator John Logan wants to go in that direction, he's got my blessing.

All it took to get Rory Kinnear on board for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was a two-word email subject line. Kinnear, who played Frankenstein's Creature in the first Penny Dreadful, returns for City of Angels as an entirely different character — this time, he's the doctor. It's a role that really cuts down on his time in the makeup chair, which Penny Dreadful and City of Angels creator John Logan knew would be a selling point.

Santiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is the pride of his family. As “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” opens, he is receiving his detective’s badge from the Los Angeles Police Department. Vega’s promotion is a blessing and a curse. He is charged with defending the law, but that often putting Vega at odds with his brothers Raul (Adam Rodriguez) and Mateo (Johnathan Nieves).

You don't have to wait any longer to watch Natalie Dormer play a demon. Showtime announced on Friday that the series premiere of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels has been released online early, ahead of its on-air premiere on Sunday.

NCIS: New Orleans had to abruptly cut its sixth season short after production ended in early March due to coronavirus, so the episode that ended the season ("Predators") wasn't exactly what producers had in mind as a farewell. Nonetheless, the episode did a solid job of bringing some storylines full circle — especially big arcs for Pride (Scott Bakula) and for Hannah Khoury (Necar Zadegan) as both of them got to have closure on some pretty significant matters.

Few actors on TV this year have set themselves the task that Natalie Dormer gave herself when she agreed to appear on Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful.”
