Kylie Minogue - could be shaping up to be the song of the summer. The unlikely contender has been embraced by an army of fans across the globe since its release in May and last night was given the seal of approval by Paris Hilton. The superstar DJ got the crowd roaring on Wednesday night as she gave the Edith Piaf-inspired track a spin during her set, proving she's also been hypnotized by its catchy melody.
Paris was performing her set at her very own show, Paris Hilton: Live at The Fonda, in Los Angeles when she decided to play the tune - that has been largely ignored by mainstream radio stations despite its popularity. 'The song of the summer' is a title bestowed upon a hit track that is proved to be the most popular song played between Memorial Day and Labor Day - and streaming giant Spotify recently revealed their predictions for the honor - which did not include Kylie. Last year's song of the summer was tie between Harry Styles' As It Was and the Lizzo hit About Damn Time.
This year, there does not appear to be a clear contender yet - but Kylie's song has arguably been one of the most talked about songs on social media. Still, it seems the track has a way to go. In the UK, furious fans of the 55-year-old Australian pop diva have also slammed BBC Radio 1 for being 'ageist' after snubbing the track.
However, its popularity online is undeniable - and has also garnered support from Oscar-winning acting legend Nicole Kidman, who has posted about her love of the song. Last month, Kylie announced her new album, Tension, the follow-up to 2020's Disco will be released on September 22. The album will have 11 tracks and include her recently released dance tune 10 Out of 10 with DJ Oliver Heldens.
