Paramount Sets 1980s Action Thriller ‘Bella’ With Samara Weaving

Joe Otterson TV Reporter The live-action “Knuckles” series starring Idris Elba at Paramount+ has assembled its cast. The show was first announced in February 2022. In addition to Elba reprising the role of Knuckles from “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” Variety has learned that Adam Pally (“Happy Endings,” “The Mindy Project”) is set to star in the series, once again playing the role of Wade Whipple from the film franchise. The film takes place between the events of “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which is slated to hit theaters Dec. 20, 2024. In the series, Knuckles “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior,” per the official logline.

Drake Bell apparently had a «falling out» with his wife, which led to the former Nickelodeon star's «possible attempted suicide,» this according to police.In a 911 audio recording between an Orlando Police Department officer and a dispatcher with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department in Florida, the officer said the scary ordeal was a «celebrity» who had a «falling out» with his wife and police got involved because Bell was texting family in California saying he was going to «get drunk and hang himself» in a hotel somewhere in Orlando.According to the 911 audio, obtained by ET, cops say they got permission to ping Drake's phone for his exact location. In the audio, it appears cops had gotten Bell's coordinates and were trying to pinpoint his exact location.

Netflix has released the first official trailer for The Mother, Jennifer Lopez‘s upcoming action-thriller – you can watch it above.Directed by Niki Caro (Mulan), the film stars Lopez as an assassin who will do anything to protect her daughter, having been forced to give her up at birth.“I’m a killer. And I’m also a mother,” says Lopez’s character in the action-packed trailer, which sees her headbutt, stab and shoot a variety of bad guys who threaten both her and her daughter.A synopsis of the film reads: “A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.”The trailer opens with Lopez in a flashback giving birth to her daughter.

McKinley Franklin author Producer Jolene Rodriguez has announced that Julio Macias and Danube Hermosillo are set to star in the upcoming action-packed thriller film “Atypical Pirate,” to be directed by Ruben Islas. Rodriguez was named one of Variety’s 10 emerging producers to watch in 2023, known for her feature film “Righteous Thieves.”  Macias is known for his roles in several popular television series, including “On My Block,” “Selena,” “The Rookie,” “Promised Land” and “Young Dario.” He joins Hermosillo, known for her roles in “Shameless,” “Everything, Everything,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Julie & The Phantoms.” Hermosillo, too, recently starred in Rodriguez’s “Righteous Thieves.”

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Netflix has ordered its first ever pilot. The streaming giant, which has typically opted to order projects straight to series, has greenlit a pilot for the single-camera comedy “Little Sky,” Variety has confirmed. Samara Weaving is attached to star in the pilot, which hails from creator Rightor Doyle. According to an invidual with knowledge of the situation, Netflix does not plan to shift to the traditional broadcast model of ordering multiple pilots and comparing them for potential series orders. The “Little Sky” pilot is the only one planned at present. Nevertheless, the fact that Netflix is willing to order a pilot is significant. The streamer has heavily influenced broadcast networks and other outlets in recent years into using a script-to-series model and mini rooms, the latter of which are a sticking point in the current WGA negotiations. To that point, the number of pilots ordered at the major broadcast networks during the current traditional pilot season has reached an all-time low, with just 14 pilots ordered to date.
