Holly Jones L.A.-based Outsider Pictures, a U.S. distribution hub for emerging Spanish-language cinema, has secured North American rights to 2020 Ventana Sur Primer Corte title “Fogaréu,” the debut feature from burgeoning Brazilian director Flávia Neves. The deal, brokered between Outsider (“Blanquita”) and France’s MPM Premium New Visions arm (“The Pink Cloud”), follows the film’s world premiere at Berlinale’s Panorama in 2022, where it snagged the third place Audience Award. “Fogaréu” was a selection at the Neufchâtel International Film Festival and further competed at the Guadalajara Film Festival, Vancouver Film Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival and the Mons Love International Festival, where it won the 400 Coups Competition Prize.”
“We’re happy to work with Outsider Pictures again, they’re a great supporter, carrying Latin American voices into North American homes,” Quentin Worthington, head of sales and acquisitions at MPM Premium, told Variety.“ “Infusing fantasy and thriller elements while creating a strong critique of conservative practices inherited from Brazil’s colonial past, ‘Fogaréu’ draws comparison to ‘Bacurau’in many ways, but with a distinctly feminist touch and personal tone,” he added. “Fogaréu” has also sold to HBO Central and Eastern Europe. Brazilian subscription service Canal Brasil previously pounced on the film for the territory, while London-headquartered Spafax Media, whose clients include Air Canada, Delta, Emirates and The Lufthansa Group, acquired the project for airlines. Naman Ramachandran Global independent film distributor Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American, Australian and New Zealand rights to Scott Lyus’ debut feature, “Walking Against the Rain.” The follows the story of Blair and Tommy, two strangers who traverse an empty landscape in search of each other, relying only on their two soon-to-die battery-operated radio mics for communication. As they try to evade a new evil monster, they confront loss and grief and learn to trust humanity once again. “Walking Against The Rain” is written and directed by Lyus and produced in partnership with Chris Nials under their U.K. production company Crossroad Pictures.
Aerosmith will be embarking on a farewell tour of North America later this year.The extensive run of shows will kick off in Philadelphia in September and will continue making stops throughout North America until late January 2024, where the band will sign off for good in Montreal. Ed Sheeran is hitting the road. As the 32-year-old pop star gears up for his upcoming "+-=x Tour" (pronounced: «The Mathematics Tour»), he announced on Friday a special run of intimate shows to coincide with the release of his new album, (pronounced: ""). «I'm playing some smaller theatre shows in the U.S. this summer, so I can play the entire way through with full band in an intimate setting,» Sheeran explained on social media. The Subtract Tour will take place in theaters and auditoriums in 14 cities across North America, beginning in Clearwater, Florida, on May 19 and wrapping at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, on September 22.
