Finneas and Billie Eilish channel 2000s boyband gold on ‘Turning Red’ song ‘Nobody Like U’

Turning Red, wherein powerhouse siblings Finneas and Billie Eilish – the former appearing as part of the fictional boyband 4*Town (a tongue-in-cheek riff on *NSYNC) – take fans right back to 2002.Titled ‘Nobody Like U’, the song is an almost scarily accurate pastiche of early ‘00s pop. It starts with washed-out vocals, clicky synth beats and quasi-flamenco strumming, before bursting into a lively bop driven by bold, modulated piano chords and stacked lead vocals.Opening the intently cheesy, ultra-nostalgic track, the fictional 4*Town quintet – flanked by Eilish on backing vocals – croon: “I’ve never met nobody like you / Had friends and I’ve had buddies, it’s true / But they don’t turn my tummy the way you do.”Check out the lyric video for ‘Nobody Like U’, replete with scrapbook-esque nods to relics of ‘00s culture, below:Finneas voices the role of Jesse in Turning Red, with his “bandmates” rounded out by Robaire (as portrayed by Jordan Fisher), Aaron T (Topher Ngo), Aaron Z (Josh Levi) and Tae Young (Grayson Villanueva). The film is set for a worldwide release on March 11.

Clayton Davis You can find strange similarities between almost any two years for Oscar prognosticating. Just days away from the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards and three weeks out from BAFTA and Critics Choice ceremonies, there are odd correlations between this year’s crop of nominees and the ceremony that rewarded the 1952 cinematic year.Denis Villeneuve’s omission from best director for the sci-fi drama “Dune” was the most shocking when Oscar nominations were announced.

Lady Gaga has failed to receive a Best Actress nomination at the 2022 Oscars for her role in House of Gucci.Gaga was a favourite throughout awards season for her performance as Patrizia Reggiani in Ridley Scott’s film about the notorious murder of Reggiani’s husband, Maurizio Gucci. The actor and singer earned a BAFTA nomination last week, as well as a nod at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and many international critics groups’ awards. However, Gaga lost out today (February 8) as the five Oscar-nominated performers for 2022 are Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Kristen Stewart.“Lady Gaga was the only lead actress to be nominated at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics Choice, and BAFTAs this year.
