Set in 1960s Baltimore, it follows housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman), who is pushed to reinvent her life as an investigative journalist following an unsolved murder. She then crosses paths with Cleo Sherwood (Ingram), a dedicated mother who is juggling several jobs, along with a commitment to advancing Baltimore’s Black community.
Currently in production, the “Lady in the Lake” cast also includes Y’lan Noel (“Insecure”), Mikey Madison (“Scream 5”) and Brett Gelman (“Fleabag”). Ingram first broke out in Netflix’s smash hit “The Queen’s Gambit,” which garnered her an Emmy nomination for her scene-stealing supporting character Jolene. She is currently starring opposite Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in Disney+’s Star Wars series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Her feature credits include “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” opposite Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, and Michael Bay’s “Ambulance.”Ingram is replacing Oscar winner Nyong’o, who dropped out of “The Lady in the Lake” last month.
No further details were given.Endeavor Content serves as the studio, and the series is produced by Crazyrose and Bad Wolf America. Har’el executive produces alongside producing partner Christopher Leggett through her new production company, Zusa, with Portman executive producing alongside partner Sophie Mas. Selome Hailu Ella Jay Basco has been cast in Nick Antosca’s upcoming Peacock limited series “A Friend of the Family,” Variety has learned exclusively.The crime series is based on the true story of the Broberg family, whose daughter Jan (Hendrix Yancey) was kidnapped multiple times over a period of years by Robert “B” Berchtold (Jake Lacy), a charismatic, obsessed family “friend.” The Brobergs — devoted to their faith, family and community — were utterly unprepared for the sophisticated tactics their neighbor used to exploit their vulnerabilities, drive them apart and turn their daughter against them. “A Friend of the Family” follows how their lives were permanently altered and how they survived.
