The Producers Guild of America announced the pandemic delayed nominees for the 2021 PGA Awards and the “surprises” in the film category were not that surprising. Best Picture frontrunners “Nomadland,” “Minari” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” all made the cut, along with other familiar titles.

Best Actor predictions included Riz Ahmed for Sound of Metal, Anthony Hopkins for The Father and Tahar Rahim The Mauritanian for Best Actor; and Judas and the Black Messiah's Daniel Kaluuya, and Sacha Baron Cohen for The Trial of the Chicago 7 for supporting actor. Meanwhile, Best Actress nominees include Mank's Amanda Seyfried, Pieces of a Woman's Vanessa Kirby, Nomadland's Frances McDormand, The Father's Olivia Colman, and Andra Day for The United States vs.
One Night in Miami, Eliza Hittman's Never Rarely Sometimes Always, and Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman. Best Actor nominations include Chadwick Boseman, Riz Ahmed, Steven Yeun, Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins, while Best Actress nominees include Carey Mulligan, Vanessa Kirby, Viola Davis, Frances McDormand and Andra Day.

At a virtual presentation today hosted by Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, break-out British film Promising Young Woman also recieved five nominations, while a late addition to the race, Shaka King's Judas and the Black Messiah, made a surprising entry into Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor, with a nod for Lakeith Stanfield as well the bookies' favourite Daniel Kaluuya.
Two months later than usual, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 93rd Oscars.
