The WGA has written a new role for Niecy Nash-Betts: host of its strike-delayed 2024 Writers Guild Awards in Los Angeles next month.
The Emmy winner for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will emcee the West Coast ceremony on April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.
“A good writer is an actors’ greatest gift,” Nash-Betts said. “Can’t wait to celebrate their accomplishments.”
A five-time Primetime Emmy nominee, she has has racked up dozens of film and TV credits since her screen debut in Herbert Ross’ 1995 film Boys on the Side. Along with co-starring in Netflix’s Monster, Nash-Betts was a series regular on The Rookie: Feds, Claws, The Soul Man and Reno 911! and recurred on shows including The Rookie, When They See Us, Never Have I Ever, Mrs. America, Getting On and Masters of Sex. She also has had voice roles on such toon series as Human Resources, Agent Elvis, Q Force, Family Guy, Slacker Cats American Dad! and The LeBrons.

In a flipping of the script, the WGA said in November that its 2024 Writers Guild Awards, which usually are presented just before the Oscars, would be pushed until April 14 because of the writers strike. Nominations were revealed February 21 for the dual ceremonies in Los Angeles and Manhattan.
