Seth Meyers Roasts Matt Gaetz for Joining Twitch: Only Way He Reached Young Voters Before ‘Was on Venmo’ (Video)

announced he was joining the streaming platform “to bring my America First message to a new generation of viewers.” And at that, Meyers had a good laugh.“Previously, the only way he reached a new generation of voters was on Venmo!” Meyers sniped. The late night host was, of course, referring to the ongoing investigation into Gaetz for sex trafficking and paying minors to have sex with him. In August, ABC News reported that Gaetz’s “one-time wingman” Joel Greenberg gave investigators “years of Venmo and Cash App transactions” as proof of Gaetz’s actions. As is typical with Meyers’s monologue style, he deadpanned the joke and moved right along.

‘Bros’ Director Nicholas Stoller on Sex, Romance and Working With Billy Eichner on the Groundbreaking Gay Comedy

Brent Lang Executive Editor “Bros” is another R-rated, envelope-pushing look at a man in a state of arrested development from Nicholas Stoller. It’s the kind of look at male neurosis, usually the kind of mania the pops up a decade shy of mid-life crisis time, that has been the director’s stock in trade in comedies like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Get Him to the Greek” and “Neighbors.” But this film has an important twist. It has an entirely LGBTQ cast and centers on two gay men with serious commitment issues — a stretch for Stoller, who is heterosexual. So he turned to Billy Eichner, who he knew from working together on “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” and “Friends From College,” to help him fashion an authentically queer “meet cute.” “Bros,” the culmination of a multi-year writing process that Stoller likens to therapy (“making a movie like this is a lot like ‘Prince of Tides,’ he says). When it debuts on Friday, “Bros” will make history as the first major studio LGBTQ rom-com to open exclusively in theaters.

Martin Scorsese, David Tedeschi’s Music Film ‘Personality Crisis’ to Screen at IDFA

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Documentary festival IDFA will host the international premieres of Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi’s music film “Personality Crisis: One Night Only” and Barbara Kopple’s “Gumbo Coalition” as part of its Masters program, as well as the world premiere of Coco Schrijber’s “Look What You Made Me Do.” The selection includes the work of several renowned directors who have reinvented their cinematic language. Patricio Guzmán breaks from his poetic approach to adopt a more direct, political form of filmmaking with “My Imaginary Country,” centering on the October 2019 protests in Santiago. Gianfranco Rosi directs his first archive-based film “In viaggio,” which sees Pope Francis’ journeys as a map of the human condition. Jørgen Leth and Andreas Koefoed co-direct a film together for the first time with “Music for Black Pigeons,” a reflection on aging through jazz music, and Ruth Beckermann’s “Mutzenbacher” takes a look at a controversial erotic novel through an elaborate casting call.

‘Andor’ Composer Nicholas Britell Breaks Down His Score and Why He Incorporated Rustling Leaves

Jon Burlingame editor Writing new music for the “Star Wars” universe would be daunting for any composer, considering its iconic scores by the legendary John Williams. Luckily for “Andor” composer Nicholas Britell, writer-producer Tony Gilroy and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy gave him “total freedom” to imagine a new, totally unique soundscape for the backstory of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the rebel spy first encountered in the 2016 film “Rogue One.” So, unlike “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the “Star Wars” series for which Williams wrote a new theme earlier this year, there isn’t a note of Williams music in “Andor,” which launched a 12-episode run last Wednesday on Disney+.

The company has sold over one million tickets to more than 50 shows. ‘The Great’ Star Nicholas Hoult Talks Character’s Growth From ‘Sex Slave’ Days on Emmys Carpet

Nicholas Hoult had some interesting insight to share about the evolution of Emperor Peter III, his character on Hulu’s “The Great.” Hoult shared his thoughts with Variety senior culture and events editor Marc Malkin during Variety On the Carpet presented by DIRECTV. “He’s now a doting father, which is the transition for most sex slaves, I think,” Hoult said during the red carpet interview. “It’s an examination of Catherine and his relationship, and Elle [Fanning] is such a wonderful actress, we have a lot of fun.” Hoult referred to the long-spanning relationship between the show’s two main characters, which has evolved drastically over the course of the show’s two-season run. Both Hoult and Fanning are nominated for their performances at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, for lead actor and actress in a comedy series, respectively.
