Plans to build eight affordable apartments in the ‘neglected and unsightly’ garden of a bungalow next to the M60 have been submitted to Trafford’s planners. Snowdon and Developments Ltd and Jigsaw Homes North have tabled the application for the property on Shetland Way in Davyhulme.
The street was part of a wider estate built by Wimpey Homes in the 1960s. But ‘amenity space’ belonging to one of the houses - a semi-detatched dormer bungalow - has ‘not been well maintained’ and has been used for storage of materials and cars.
Developers now want to create the eight apartments which will be marketed via the rent-to-buy scheme and will be managed by a registered housing provider. A design and access statement submitted on behalf of the applicants by MSA Architects says: “The site is well positioned close to local amenities and there is direct access off Shetland Way. The site is bounded by residential properties and the M60 motorway.

“It is currently private amenity space, however it is neglected and has been used for the storage of building materials and cars. The proposals will create shared amenity spaces and a shared parking area.”
It concludes by saying: “This development of eight affordable maisonette apartments, on a brownfield site, in an existing residential area, helps to provide new homes to Trafford. The site has been unmanaged for a number of years and is unsightly.”
