Plans for a new teaching block to boost Altrincham College’s capacity from 900 to nearly 1,200 students have been submitted. Contractor Lancaster Maloney Martin (LMM) has been appointed to deliver a two and three-storey building to accommodate an additional 31 classrooms as well as a larger kitchen and restaurant, car parking and new fencing.
There will also be additional storerooms, pupil toilets, staff workroom and offices. The new build block site is currently occupied by an existing mathematics block, which will be demolished.
A design and access statement presented to Trafford council’s planning team says the internal alterations in the hall and dining area will only change a small percentage of the footprint of the school on Green Lane, Timperley. It says: “The school is located within green belt and as such, in accordance with green belt policies, special circumstances are required when constructing within these areas.

“The visual impact on the landscape will not be significantly different from that of the existing as there is already a three-story portion of the main block on the site.” The site was previously home to a primary school and before that is believed to have been farming land.
