OTTAWA — Canada’s broadcast and telecom regulator says it’s inevitable that foreign media companies streaming content into Canada, including Netflix and Amazon, will have to make an “equitable” contribution to the production of Canadian content.
But the chairman of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission says it’s not as simple as making those companies pay what has often been referred to as a “Netflix tax.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s dream move to Canada could be set for some serious turmoil.The land on which their Vancouver Island home sits is at the centre of a furious row with native Americans. A tribe of angry native Americans say the £10million home that Harry and Meghan have moved into is on land that was stolen by the British.
Fast growth in international markets, contrasting with only sluggish subscriber gains in North America, was a major factor behind streaming giant Netflix’s better than forecast growth in the last quarter of 2019. The company is set on keeping up that international momentum.
Netflix is listening and the Studio Ghibli films arriving on the platform is a mere proof of it. For the longest time, fans of the animated Japanese movies have been begging the online streaming platform to arrange for the entire catalog. It seems like Netflix made some calls and finally, movies like My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are going to arrive on the platform outside the regions of the US, Canada. Yes, these movies will arrive in India as well.
Studio's output will be available to stream from next month.
