Charlie Amter Disruptor Records may be known as the home of the Chainsmokers, but ever since New York-based label founder Adam Alpert turned the EDM duo’s success into a joint venture deal with Sony, the imprint is finding its legs outside of the world of electronic music. Most notably, the label has begun growing its own cadre of female singer-songwriters such as Dove Cameron, whose hit “Boyfriend” has lit up international terrestrial radio and streaming sites globally alike this year.Variety caught up with Alpert to talk about his label’s growing influence in the pop world, his philosophy on developing artists, the new Chainsmokers album (out Friday), the future of streaming, Alpert’s JV at Sony Music and more.

Danger Mouse and Black Thought have announced that they’ll be dropping a collaborative album this summer.Set to be released on August 12 via BMG, ‘Cheat Codes’ is Danger Mouse’s first hip-hop full-length since his ‘DANGERDOOM’ collaboration with the late MF DOOM which was released back in October 2005.It follows Black Thought’s pioneering output with legendary Philadelphia group The Roots and his critically acclaimed solo trilogy, ‘Streams Of Thought’ – the third volume of which was released in 2020.‘Cheat Codes’ – which was initially rumoured to be called ‘Dangerous Thoughts’ – is something that the pair began the initial idea for “maybe 13 or 14 years ago”, Black Thought revealed when he first teased the project in an interview back in 2020.“It’s a feel-good record,” he said. “It’s a record for people who got into hip-hop and sort of evolved at the same period of time that we did. View the teaser video for their new anthology record below.The upcoming album was first teased at the last of the band’s recent four-night sold-out Las Vegas residency, when a date of “2022.06.10” – June 10 – came up on screen at the end of the show, alongside the tagline: “We are bulletproof.”According to BTS’ label Big Hit, the three-CD collection will feature three new tracks alongside songs from the band’s discography.“After ceaselessly springing forward since 2013, BTS is celebrating their ninth anniversary this coming June,” a statement on BTS’ Weverse fan community said.“The BTS anthology that embodies the history of BTS will be released as they begin a new chapter as an artist that has been active for nine years to look back on their past endeavours.”The statement went on to add that ‘Proof’ would “reflect the thoughts and ideas of the members of the past, present and future of BTS”.Pre-order for the anthology begins tomorrow (May 5).The K-pop behemoth’s last studio album was 2020’s ‘BE‘.

Harry Styles has announced a special ‘One Night Only In New York’ gig to celebrate the release of his new album, ‘Harry’s House’.The pop star will release his third album, featuring the recent single ‘As It Was’, on May 20, via Erskine Records.The special concert will take place at the UBS Arena at Belmont Park, in Long Island’s Elmont, on May 20. Wilco have announced that they’ll be releasing a new double-disc album next month called ‘Cruel Country’.The band’s 12th studio album is set to arrive on May 27 via dBpm Records. This is the same weekend as their Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, MA, where the band will perform the new record for the first time.The title was inspired by the idea that Wilco were a country band when they first started out. “There have been elements of country music in everything we’ve ever done,” frontman Jeff Tweedy said in a press release.
