Jack Smethurst, best known for starring in sitcom Love Thy Neighbour, has died aged 89. The actor was surrounded by his family when he died peacefully, according to the Daily Star. Jack played the bigoted Eddie Booth in the controversial 1970s comedy, alongside EastEnders star Rudolph Walker.

A 21-year-old man who was stabbed in Salford knocked on a resident's door pleading for help before being rushed to hospital.
According to the resident, who prefers to remain anonymous, she heard her doorbell ring at around 11pm on Sunday night (January 6).
The woman, who did not answer the door for fear of her safety said she heard a voice calling out for help claiming they had been hurt.

She then called the ambulance and says paramedics arrived within two minutes and rushed the man to hospital.
According to GMP the man is in a 'serious condition' in hospital after suffering serious injuries to his abdomen.
Speaking to the MEN, the neighbour said: "I heard a knock around 11pm last night. I don't usually open the door because you never know, there are so many vicious people out there.
"I asked who is it, and a lad said he'd been hurt and needs help, and I said okay, 'I'll call the ambulance'. He didn't say what had happened, just that he'd been hurt, and I didn't open the door so I didn't get a look at him.
"The ambulance arrived within two minutes, they were very good.
"I heard later on that he had been stabbed, poor lad."
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 11pm last night (Sunday 6 February 2022), police were called to Manchester Road, Salford to reports of a stabbing.
"Emergency services attended and a 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his abdomen. He remains in hospital in a serious condition.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
