It’s been just eight busy years since Nadiya Hussain won the Great British Bake Off and a place in our hearts - and she hasn’t squandered a single second. At the same time as being a hands-on mother-of-three, the charismatic cook has released a library of best-selling cookery books, inspired a new generation with her children’s stories and started her own literary career with a trio of hit novels. On top of all of that she authored a documentary about her mental health battles called Nadiya: Anxiety and Me as well as presenting an incredible TEN cookery series - the latest of which is called Nadiya’s Simple Spices.
“I never imagined I would be where I am today but here I am and I am loving every second. I didn't think that I would ever in a million years get this far,” admits Nadiya. “When I wrote my first cookbook I thought, ‘Well this is the first and only cookbook I will ever ever write,’ and here I am, still writing cookbooks.
So that is pretty, pretty special. I don’t take it for granted.” It’s an incredible amount of work - each cookery book takes her a year to write - but Nadiya loves baking and cooking and above all wants to inspire others to create their own hearty family meals. At home all Nadiya’s recipes are tasted at home by her own family, husband Abdal and their children Musa, Dawud and Maryam.
“It's so important to remain humble and to love what you do,” says Nadiya. “If I didn't love what I did, I wouldn't do it anymore because I think this is very much a job that requires you to be passionate and to enjoy the environment you're in. Writing cookbooks is by far the best part of my job.
The best part of my career is to be able to inspire, to make people happy, to allow people freedom to feel confident in
