The NAACP Image Awards is keeping the Christmas celebration going into 2021 as Netflix holiday movie Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey earned 10 nominations on Tuesday, the most of any film.

It is truly unfortunate that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has disqualified Branford Marsalis’ riveting original score for the Netflix feature adaptation of the August Wilson play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. AMPAS’ current rule is that a movie’s music needs to be comprised of 60% of original score, and apparently this feature love letter to 1920s jazz and blues falls under that quota.
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” will be honoured as one of AFI’s Top 10 Films of the Year, so director George C. Wolfe is now taking ET Canada behind the scenes of the film’s opening sequence, revealing the importance of every little sound.
