The child stars of CITV hit My Parents are Aliens looked a far cry from their pint-sized alter egos this week, as they were reunited with former lead Tony Gardner for the ultimate reunion snap - 17 years after the show came to an end in 2006.The comedy favourite played Brian Johnson, an alien posing as a foster dad in the smash hit kids show, which ran from 1999 to 2006. Yet in a clear change of pace, Tony has since gone on to pursue a more serious career on stage as he is currently starring in the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre’s production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist.
Coming out to support him as he tread the boards were a slew of his former child co-stars, who are now all grown up themselves. Stopping to share a sweet photo with the star, were Alex Kew, who played Josh Barker, Charlotte Francis, who played Lucy Barker and Olisa Odele, who starred as CJ.
Stephanie Fearon, who joined the show as Harriet after original star Danielle McCormack called time on her role in the show, was also present, as was Jordan Maxwell, who was best known for playing Frankie Perkins in the popular series. Beaming from ear to ear, Tony couldn’t hide his delight as he was reunited with his former co-stars, as he excitedly took to twitter to write: “My Parents are Aliens reunion at the play tonight.
Such a wonderful group of friends.” Airing for 106 episodes across a 7 year period, My Parents are Aliens was a childhood favourite for many 90’s kids, as it combined the perfect amount of emotional punch with genuine slapstick humour. The CITV series originally starred Tony and Barbara Durkin as alien foster parents, Brian and Sophie Johnson, however Carla Mendonça later took over the role of Sophie from 2001 onwards. Rachel Seo New York Times-bestselling novelist Curtis Sittenfeld broke out with her 2005 debut “Prep,” which unpacked the layered coming-of-age of a teenager at a private boarding school. Since then, she’s spun “Pride and Prejudice” for the 21st century with 2016’s “Eligible” and reimagined the fictional lives of Laura Bush in “American Wife” and Hillary Clinton in “Rodham.” Now, with “Romantic Comedy,” Sittenfeld crafts a lighthearted romance between a late-night comedy writer and an aging pop star, framed within a smart, funny commentary about the dynamics and perceptions of celebrity relationships. “Romantic Comedy” follows Sally Milz, who writes for a fictional “Saturday Night Live”-esque show called “The Night Owls.” While not necessarily cynical about love, Milz has had enough experiences under her belt to mitigate her own expectations romantically. When her friend and colleague, Danny Horst (by all accounts an average-looking, if talented, man) gets engaged to a gorgeous actress named Annabel Horst, Milz puts pen to paper to write a sketch called the Danny Horst Rule, riffing on the trend of very normal men pairing off with successful and captivating women — all the while emphasizing that the opposite never happens. But when the show’s guest host, a pop star named Noah Brewster, begins to show interest in her, Milz finds her life upended and her own assumptions challenged when she starts to live in her own romantic comedy.
