When Dylan Ward, from St. Neots in Cambridgeshire, went to the GP with a sore leg, he was told by the doctor that it was simply growing pains. However, Dylan, then aged seven, was eventually diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, and given a less than 50/50 chance of survival, which shook his family to the core.
His diagnosis was labelled as inoperable due to the size of the tumour on his tail bone, resulting in a relentless regimen over the last 14 months, including 14 rounds of high-strength chemotherapy, six weeks of proton beam therapy, two weeks of radiotherapy, and ongoing oral chemotherapy. Dylan's mum, Jessica Flack, 32, spoke to OK! about the long journey to getting a diagnosis, and how resilient Dylan has beat the odds to enjoy life and even compete in dressage at a national level... "I took him to a walk-in GP, in October 2021 because he was experiencing pain in his left leg for the entire day.
It wasn't like him. He's not one to complain, so when he was moaning that he was hurting, I knew that it must have been quite bad but he was dismissed - quite rudely - at the time, and told that it was growing pains.
That went on for nine months, until July 2022 when he was finally diagnosed, aged seven. By that point, things had only got worse.
He'd developed a limp, and had lots of lots of different symptoms that were still being passed off as growing pains before finally he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, which was about the size of a small melon filling up his left hip cavity. He was told immediately that he wasn't to use his left leg at all because of the damage that it had done to his hip bones. Unfortunately, it's very common.

empty barstool at Moe’s Tavern.Fox’s long-running sitcom “The Simpsons” killed off one of its familiar characters Sunday night — Larry the Barfly.Larry, who was often seated next to his friend Sam, was (a fictional) 42 years old. While casual fans might not know the balding man by name, Larry has had a spot at Moe’s since, at least, Season 1’s “Homer’s Odyssey” that aired back in January 1990 — more than 34 years ago.He appeared sporadically over the years, rarely saying a word. But in the Season 2 episode “Bart Gets Hit by a Car,” the drunk checks out Marge Simpson and shouts, “Who’s the chick?”Sunday night in the Season 35 episode “Cremains of the Day,” Larry died, and Homer, Moe and fellow bar regulars Lenny and Carl went on a road trip to scatter his ashes. As Larry was a background character only — with little known about him beyond his fondness for booze and incoherently muttering — the script references how vague his story is.Homer and Co., who realize that they hardly knew the guy, feel lousy when Larry’s mother tells them that he described the Moe’s gents as his “best friends,” and asked them to share some “fond memories.” They make up a bogus fishing tale.Longtime fans were shocked by the loss.“Just learned they are killing off Larry on The Simpsons tomorrow. I need a minute,” one posted on X.
