A man accused of murder has told jurors he is ‘ashamed’ of his actions after a barbaric attack upon Wigan dad, Liam Smith.
Michael Hillier has admitted shooting 38-year-old electrician Mr Smith outside his home in Shevington, Wigan, in November last year. He then poured acid on the dad-of-two.
Hillier, 39, claimed that he and his girlfriend, Rachel Fulstow, plotted to attack Mr Smith in revenge, following an allegation that she was raped by him in a hotel room after they met for a date in 2019. She denies any involvement but Hillier has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He and Ms Fulstow, 37, both deny murder and are on trial at Minshull Street Crown Court.
Giving evidence for a second day, Hillier told jurors that he was ‘ashamed of his actions’ and called the attack upon Mr Smith ‘barbaric’.
He previously told jurors that he had an unsent email on his phone, listing the number of sexual encounters he had.
“In 2016 I made a list, a consensual list, of sexual encounters I had. I added to it every time,” he said.
His barrister, Louise Blackwell KC said that Ms Fulstow was number 80. Asked if there was anything different about her, he said: “She’s a goddess.”
He was asked about the defence case statements of Ms Fulstow, which were received on the first day of trial, the court heard.
He said: “The defence case statement was full of fictitious, convoluted and malicious lies. There was not a shred of truth in it. Over the six month period I was on remand, Rachel threw me under the bus to save herself.
“I still tried to protect her as much as I could, I tried to give her every opportunity to come clean. She backed me into a corner, there was no way I
