'Muppets everywhere' slammed over ridiculous clothing as they climb Snowdon

It's one of the impressive landmarks around. Climb the 3,560ft Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, and you'll be rewarded with stunning views.
Even in the first few months of this year, climbers have reported huge queues at the summit. But something peculiar has caught the eye of seasoned visitors.
Eyebrows have been raised at the attire of some walkers taking on Yr Wyddfa, North Wales Live reports. Some climbers have been seen in flip-flops and trainers - while one man in shorts even wore sandals to cross Crib Coch, while clutching a plastic shopping bag.

Over the years, people have been spotted climbing Yr Wyddfa all sorts of unsuitable attire. In winter, when Wales' tallest mountain is covered in snow and often mired in fog, the stakes are higher still.
Already this year, climbers have seen quite a few people were wearing trainers. In reality, most had sensible footwear.
A few, mindful of the conditions, were prepared to turn around before reaching the summit. But the climbing community has been left aghast at the minority who are not only risking their own lives but who are also adding to the strain on over-stretched mountain rescue services.
Yr Wyddfa visitors typically peak in summer but winter is no longer the preserve of heavily equipped and experienced climbers. A viral video shared on TikTok in February 2024 showed huge queues waiting to reach the summit.
The man who took the video wrote on it: "When you reach the summit of the highest mountain in Wales and you're sharing it with 3,000 people wearing trainers..." Any number of people wearing trainers have been plucked to safety in recent years.
