Tributes have been paid to an 'amazing' young woman who died while awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Aimee Read, 29, was due to undergo the life-saving surgery next month to treat a life-threatening blood disease.
Aimee, from Ramsbottom, was diagnosed with PNH – paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria – back in 2016. The condition sees the body’s cells attacked by the immune system.
Aimee had surgery for a bone marrow transplant back in January but it proved unsuccessful, leaving her and her family 'deflated'. Last month, doctors offered a glimmer of hope when they revealed they had found another donor.

Another transplant was offered in July - around the time of Aimee's 30th birthday. However, just days after she had received the news, Aimee became unwell and was admitted to St James's Hospital in Leeds.
While in hospital, she was rushed to the intensive care unit with double pneumonia and died on May 28. In an emotional tribute, Aimee's mum Wendy described her daughter as 'her world'.
"Aimee had to endure so many things that most girls her age don't have to go through," she said. "Despite all the adversity, she has always been so strong and positive.
"Even when she was going through her worst times, she was thinking about others. She has always been an amazing listener and so loving and caring. She was just a joy to be around. Everyone loved her.
"When she used to go to hospital, she befriended so many of the patients and staff she came across. She just had this special gift with people."
A GoFundMe page has been set up in memory of Aimee, with donations going towards blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan and the intensive care
