Finding your white clothes have turned drab and grey after washing is a common yet annoying problem.
This often happens because white fabrics have special brighteners that wash off over time, making clothes look grey. Thankfully, it's a simple problem to fix, and all you need is one staple cleaning product you can buy in most supermarkets.
The hack was shared on social media by fans of Mrs Hinch, a 'cleanfluencer' who has built up millions of followers online thanks to her helpful tips and tricks for tackling tough cleaning jobs around the house.
Hundreds of Facebook groups have been set up by fans of the cleaning guru for people to share their own dilemmas and solutions with each other. One woman was recently seeking some advice from fellow cleaning fans about how to restore grey clothes, making them look bright and white again.
Taking to Facebook, she wrote: "I've got a couple of old white t-shirts that over time have turned that nasty grey colour.
"I've soaked in buckets of Napisan but I haven't been able to turn them white again! Any pointers please? ".
Plenty of group members soon flocked to the comments to offer their advice, and one of the most popular solutions was to abandon the bleach and use Vanish instead, the Express reports.
One fellow cleaning fan said: "Bleach breaks down the fabric, so they won't last long at all and do go yellow. Vanish is best." Another person also suggested: "Put in a bucket with warm water [and] white vanish powder tub."
You can find Vanish powder in many supermarkets as well as online. For example, Vanish Gold Oxi Action Fabric Stain Remover Powder is available for £4 at Asda and Sainsbury's, with a number of varieties sold on Amazon.
