Marks and Spencer customers have slammed the new modern-style cafes at its Trafford Centre and Handforth Dean megastores, likening them to a "poor functioning McDonalds". Café-goers have left a string of one and two star reviews on TripAdvisor since the new look cafes launched in the stores.
The cafes feature digital ordering boards for the first time - where you order on large screens and pay by card before taking your seat and waiting for table service. But it is a development that has disgruntled some customers.
A string of one star "terrible" and two star "poor" reviews have left the M&S store at Handforth Dean on a 2/5 overall rating on TripAdvisor. Meanwhile the Trafford Centre M&S Café has an overall 2.5/5 star rating on the public reviews site.

Shoppers leaving reviews since January have slammed the new digital ordering system, the waiting times for food, and products flashing up as out of stock on the digi-boards. One said they find the new look "Joyless" and "soulless" while another described it "like a fast food place".
The new style of café was introduced for the launch of the huge new Trafford Centre megastore which opened amid a blaze of publicity in November. Bosses also rolled out the new design and digital boards at the vast Handforth Dean M&S superstore in Cheshire at the end of last year too.
M&S heralded it "a complete step change with new branding and improved all day delicious menus".
But it appears some shoppers have not warmed to the new style.
