A Facebook user posted: "I actually hate cleaning my oven racks. Saw a tip for soaking them in hot water with fabric softener and thought it was worth a shot.
"It works like a dream," said the poster, adding: "The burnt-on grease just came off so easily with a gentle wipe using a scourer. Game changer!"
In response to the post, one user commenter said: "I'm going to try this. I’ve just wasted an hour of my life using a metal scraper and I’m not getting anywhere."
Another commented: "Wow, what a fantastic tip thank you so much. Yours looks great."
A third wrote: "I've just done mine today, amazing! My oven has never been so clean."
Most will already own fabric conditioner, but for those who don’t, it can be bought from most local supermarkets.
Sainsbury's Fabric Conditioner costs £1.65. Asda Fresh Cotton Fabric Softener costs £2.50.
Other suggestions for clean oven racks included putting them in a dishwasher, letting them bathe overnight and using washing powder, dishwasher tablets or washing up liquid.
