With winter setting in, more and more households will have to address mould issues. The unpleasant substance which is caused by damp can damage walls and roofs.
It can also cause issues for people who suffer from respiratory conditions, such as asthma. However, there are several solutions available online for those looking to fight back against mouldy patches.
In a Facebook group named after cleaning influencer Sophie Hinchliffe - aka Mrs Hinch - where fans share their tips and tricks, one commenter shared an odd tip for tackling mould. They claimed that using mouthwash does the job and can even completely stop mould from re-growing.
They said: "Original Listerine mouthwash stops it re-growing. Leave the window open a little for airflow a few times a week."
The Mirror then asked cleaning expert Emily Barron from Rezigo if the trick would actually work, and she confirmed that this is in fact the case. She said: "Yes - Listerine can kill mould and keep it at bay as it kills 99.9 per cent of germs and bacteria in your mouth, the same can be said for killing bacteria in your home.
"To kill the fungal spores of mould, use plain, clear, and inexpensive ethanol-based mouthwash. Dilute the mixture by using one part mouthwash to three parts water. Spray this on the affected areas once every few days and keep the room well-ventilated or use a dehumidifier to ensure airflow and reduce the risk for further build-up."
Bottles of Listerine only cost £1 from B&M, but the product is available at several major stores for a little more cash.
David Philips, building expert at Property Rescue shared another mould-busting trick, saying: "To remove mould, you can dilute one part bleach in four parts water and gently wipe affected surfaces.
