Ash share ‘Crashed Out Wasted’ and talk touring with The Subways and the “rock mood” of new album

Ash have shared new song ‘Crashed Out Wasted’, as well as telling NME about what to expect from eighth album ‘Race The Night‘ and their upcoming joint tour with The Subways. The new album, released on September 15 on Fierce Panda, has been five years in the making, and – with classic Ash dynamism – tackles themes of ego, sex, gentrification and dislocation. The band tour across the UK with The Subways from the end of September, culminating at the Kentish Town Forum on October 11, before heading on to Europe. For another taster of the record, the band have shared ‘Crashed Out Wasted’ – described by frontman Tim Wheeler as “an ode to one of those nights” where “you may be the last one standing, or wobbling, but you aren’t ready to end it just yet”.“You’re drunk dialing, and shit posting, looking for a partner in Dionysian crime,” said Wheeler. “Before you know it you’re crashing down the stairs, your mind is gone, and that’s when the bad thing happens…”Wheeler spoke to NME about the album’s lengthy genesis, their unreleased disco album and the ongoing godlike effects of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shares message of support for viral ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ singer Oliver Anthony

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has shared a message of support for singer Oliver Anthony whose song ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ went viral this month.Anthony quickly went viral after a video of him performing the song went live on YouTube August 8, and has since hit Number One on the iTunes Country Charts, soared to the top spot on Apple Music’s Global Music Charts, and racked up over 47million views on YouTube. It then made chart history by debuting at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Anthony the first artist to do so without any prior chart history. However, the song – which many interpreted to be a working class anthem – has been surrounded by controversy since its release, after it was criticised for being “fatphobic”, while others labelled it a “right-wing anthem”.Anthony – a former factory worker and farmer – has since sad that left-wingers “misunderstood my words”, while at the same time criticising Republicans for “weaponising” the meaning behind his viral hit.A post shared by Oliver Anthony (@oliver_anthony_music_)The singer has now received a message of support from Johnson, who praised the singer’s handling of the sudden wave of attention that came his way.In a recent Instagram post featuring a screenshot of Anthony’s huge surge in monthly Spotify listeners, he wrote: “I was thrilled at 300 and and I’m thrilled today. I’m beyond thankful for everyone.”‘The Rock’ commented shortly after to say: “Great to connect with u brother.

‘The Elephant 6 Recording Co.’ Review: Rock Doc Celebrates The Brief Life Of An Explosively Creative Indie Rock Collective

Author Douglas Coupland once wrote in his seminal 1991 slacker work, “Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture,” that “nostalgia is a deadly weapon,” and one supposes those words can be cautionary tales about our youth, what we romanticize and what potentially holds us back from growing because we can’t move on past it. I’m not exactly sure what that has to do with the new documentary, “‘The Elephant 6 Recording Co.,” about the late ‘90s recording collective The Elephant 6, mostly comprised of lo-fi indie bands from in and around Athens, Georgie, other than to say after watching this appropriately chaotic, shaggy and baggy documentary, Coupland’s quote immediately flashed back into my memory.

yank six titles — including “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” and “On Beyond Zebra!” — from print in 2021, citing supposedly offensive content in the picture books. And, over the decades, Richard Scarry’s classic children’s books have been retroactively tinkered with time and again by sensitivity readers.
