The cast of Modern Family reunited at the SAG Awards on Saturday to present the Ensemble in a Comedy Series category won by The Bear.
Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Ed O’Neill, Sofía Vergara, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson took the stage and talked about what they have been up to following the end of their comedy series.
Burrell opened up the floor, asking the cast if they missed being together with Bowen, noting that being on a show for 11 seasons “never happens.” O’Neill chimed in, saying, “It’s happened twice to me,” alluding to the 11-season run of Married with Children.
“Yeah, my new show Griselda is also, for a month already, No. 1 in 90 countries,” Vergara said.

Stonestreet interjected and asked Ferguson to pay up, as they had seemingly placed a bet as to how long it would take Vergara to mention the success of her Netflix show.
Ferguson said he got “a little nostalgic for the golden days” and noted, “But a life after a big hit show, it can be nice too.”
“Ah geez, who are we kidding?” O’Neill griped. “I didn’t want to get emotional up there, but you know what I miss about it most of all? The money!”
Ferguson then asked if it was “too early to talk about a reboot” of the show because, attending the SAG Awards, he said he had to “park a mile away from here.”
Bowen then brought up Ferguson’s Broadway career, which she said the actor always said he wanted to return to his roots.
“That’s just something actors without hit shows say, OK?” Ferguson said. “There’s a reason Tony Award is the last letter of EGOT.”
Vergara asked O’Neill to “pay up, I told you he was going to mention it.”

In a video uploaded to Instagram by Vergara, 51, several cast members can be seen gazing at a photo of their missing castmate.

Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic Netflix made clear from the start that they were running a different kind of awards show. Presenter and quasi-host Idris Elba indicated to the attended nominees that, in their speeches, they were free to let expletives fly, but that none of them should say anything “you wouldn’t say in front of Oprah.” (Shortly after that, Meryl Streep walked directly into the mic stand — seeming to suggest a kooky and wild awards show that didn’t quite arrive.) After the SAG Awards had fully moved to streaming — after a liminal year, in 2023, in which the ceremony had aired on Netflix’s YouTube channel, preceded by a long tenure on the Turner cable networks — it felt like a sort of safe space for speaking frankly.
