Nearly five years have passed since Grimes ended her last album Art Angels with a reminder: “If you’re looking for a dream girl, I’ll never be your dream girl.” Few people seemed to grasp that lyric. Trigger happy at the sight of one of its favorite artists getting sucked into the absurdity of the late 2010s, music media (The FADER included) spun her hiatus into a saga: When Grimes mentioned new music, she was a headline.

Grimes has dropped Miss Anthropocene, her long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s Art Angels. Arriving in the form of both a 10-track standard edition and a 15-track deluxe edition, the two versions of Miss Anthropocene feature previously released singles “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth,” “Delete Forever,” “Violence,” “4ÆM,” “My Name Is Dark,” and “We Appreciate Power,” the latter of which only features on the deluxe edition.

The long-awaited new album from Grimes is out now. Way back in December 2017, a couple of years removed from Art Angels, Grimes told fans that she was hoping to share new music “soon.” Then, in March 2019, after sharing a handful of tracks, she revealed her album’s title, Miss Anthropocene.
