‘Minari’ Film Review: Steven Yeun Leads Charming Drama About Korean Transplants in 1980s Arkansas

Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari starring Steven Yeun is very much an American story. Chung, who was born in Denver, Colorado, tells the story of an immigrant Korean family that has lived in America for some time as they adapt to their new farm life in a small Arkansas town. All that said, the A24 film was put in the Best Foreign Language award category for the upcoming Golden Globes — and people aren’t very happy about that.

Love was definitely in the air when it came to 2020 Korean dramas as we were treated with one lovely on-screen couple after another. Many of them had such tangible chemistry that fans began to ship these pairs IRL too.

Clayton Davis The Hollywood Foreign Press has come under fire again for the rule that disallows “Minari,” the story of a Korean immigrant family struggling to build a better life in Arkansas, from competing in the Golden Globes race for best drama or musical/comedy.

Variety, the A24 drama will be relegated to the Best Foreign Language Film category because it is primarily in Korean.

The 2021 Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) are under fire for their choice to include Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari in the Best Foreign Language Film category, shut out from the Best Picture race.

Movie fans are calling foul on the Golden Globes.
