Michelle Keegan shot to global fame when Fool Me Once landed on Netflix at the beginning of the year.
The gripping thriller , which is an adaptation of American writer Harlan Cobden's novel of the same name, saw Michelle take on the leading role of Maya Stern. Now, Harlan has opened up adapting his book for TV screens - and how former Corrie star Michelle gave life to his leading lady. Speaking to OK!, he said: "I created Maya, but Michelle Keegan brought her in a different direction.
Michelle is fantastic, she’s so hardworking and a wonderful actress. "This is one of my only series which was led by one main character, so it was Michelle Keegan’s baby. She really cares – and she is such a fine person." He continued: "She was on set every day and was always a pleasant person to have around, she always smiled and was always kind.
You won’t meet one person who has a bad story about Michelle. Even when some filming days went on long, she wasn’t fazed." With a Fool Me Once adaptation being in the pipeline for a number of years, it's perhaps unsurprising that Michelle wasn't the first actress considered for the role. Harlan explained: "I wrote the book a number of years ago and the first person who bought the book to be made into a movie had Julia Roberts in the role.
"But that fell by the wayside and ended up not happening. My team suggested Michelle and I watched a lot of her work, and we all then felt that she was the perfect person for the role." Since the success of Fool Me Once, Michelle has jetted off to Australia to film the upcoming series of Ten Pound Poms. In which she portrays Kate Thorne, a British woman who departs post-war Britain for Australia, having been promised a better quality of life for a mere £10.
