Noel Gallagher: “America couldn’t handle the fact that Oasis didn’t give a fuck about anything”

Noel Gallagher has said Oasis never became as popular in the US as they were in the UK because America “couldn’t handle” that “we didn’t give a fuck about anything”.Gallagher was speaking in conversation with the legendary rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky ahead of her new exhibition, which will include images of Oasis that she was able to capture during the band’s peak.“America, they couldn’t handle the fact that we didn’t give a fuck about anything,” said Gallagher, when asked about Oasis’ relationship with the country. “I mean, I think that’s the reason we’ve never really had a number one album in America – they wouldn’t go the extra mile for us because we wouldn’t go the extra mile for them.”“That’s why we’ve never been nominated for a GRAMMY – you’ve got to do all that stuff over there, you’ve got to kind of fake it a little bit and we just we couldn’t do it which is why we’d always stall at number two.”All seven of Oasis’ studio albums reached the Number One spot on the UK Albums Chart, whereas none achieved the same feat in the US, with 1997’s ‘Be Here Now’ reaching the highest position of Number Two.

Oasis fans are remembering the time Matthew Perry hosted them on ‘SNL’

Oasis fans have taken to social media to join the outpouring of tributes to the actor Matthew Perry who died at the weekend.Perry, known widely for his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the hit US sitcom, Friends, was found dead at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday (October 29).But fans of the Oasis have been remembering Perry for a specific reason, the time he hosted Saturday Night Live and presented them as the musical entertainment for the evening.A post shared by Oasis Mania Fanpage (@oasismaniaofficial)The episode, which took place on October 4 1997, included various comedy skits, including Perry hosting a sarcasm class, fitting with his typical comedic style, and a parody take on Friends. But some Oasis fans are more focused on the end of the episode, where Perry closed the show, with Liam and Noel Gallagher standing either side of him. The duo had just that year released their third studio album ‘Be Here Now’, and performed the tracks, ‘Acquiesce’ and ‘Don’t Go Away.’The caption of the Instagram post read: “Rest in peace Matthew Perry.

The original owner, identified only as “Dick,” had stored the classic car in a barn. The body was covered in dust and rodent droppings, but the car was in otherwise good condition, right down to the original tires and blue oil filter.

Johnny Marr says he quit drinking after gifting Noel Gallagher with guitar

Johnny Marr has said that gifting Noel Gallagher with an expensive guitar – after he smashed the previous one – is partly what motivated him to stop drinking.Marr previously recalled the time he gave a young, “skint” Gallagher his guitars before the pre-Oasis guitarist could afford his own.“He was just this guy who I recognised was intense and really serious about what he was doing, and he was skint and I had a load of guitars and I thought, ‘right OK well I’ll give him this guitar’,” he told Radio X.The Smiths guitarist gave Gallagher a 1960 Gibson Les Paul – which can be heard on The Smiths’ 1986 album ‘The Queen Is Dead’, and was formerly owned by The Who‘s Pete Townshend – only for him to smash it while dealing with a stage invader during a gig in Newcastle.Gallagher called Marr to ask for a replacement, after which the guitarist gifted his black 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom.Marr also gave his 12-string sunburst Gibson 335, which features in the video for ‘Sheila Take a Bow’, to former Suede guitarist and producer Bernard Butler.“It’s just to be nice,” Marr told The Guardian. “As simple as that.

Liam Gallagher says Noel turned down offer to take part in ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour

Liam Gallagher has claimed that Noel Gallagher turned down the opportunity to take part in the upcoming ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour.News of the UK tour was announced yesterday (October 16) and confirmed that Liam would be hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of Oasis’ debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’.The live shows follow on from an update shared by the singer earlier this year in which he reflected on the milestone and teased fans by saying that he was looking for a way to play the 1994 album in full.Liam continued to tease the prospect, later announcing that he’d be playing “naughty” B-sides from the era too as well ‘Half The World Away’ sung by his brother, former bandmate and Oasis’ chief songwriter, Noel. However unfortunately for fans it looks like his brother and ex-bandmate has no intention of taking part in the upcoming tour. The live shows will instead be more of a solo venture for Liam. This news came when Liam took to X (formerly Twitter) earlier today (October 17) to confirm that he offered his brother the chance to participate in the Oasis tour but that no plans ever materialised.“He’s been asked and he’s refused,” he wrote, responding to a fan who asked when he was going to announce Noel’s involvement in the tour. He’s been asked and he’s refused— Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) October 17, 2023The 12-date ‘Definitely Maybe 30 Years’ UK and Ireland tour will kick off in Sheffield on June 2 before making stops in Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin.Three dates at London’s O2 venue are also planned, as are three in his hometown of Manchester, held at the Co-Op Live venue.“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the ‘Definitely Maybe’ Tour,” he said at the time.
