Meghan Markle allegedly desired "free handbags from Victoria Beckham before snubbing her", as per a new biography.
The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power, the latest book by Tom Bower, delves into the relationship between the Beckhams and the Sussexes, revealing where things took a turn for the worse. The former journalist suggests that the Duchess of Sussex aspired to emulate the fashion icon.
The book alleges that Meghan asked the Spice Girls star for complimentary clothes and handbags while she was engaged to Prince Harry. However, this request was "vetoed by the Palace for being against their rules," according to Tom.
The explosive book also suggests Meghan was "irritated" upon discovering Victoria's wealth surpassed her own. It stated she was annoyed when she realised the Beckhams had "considerably more wealth" than she did, reports the Mirror.
According to Bower, signs of strain in the relationship between the famous families began to surface in 2018. He noted that while the Beckhams did receive an invitation to Harry and Meghan's wedding, they were not invited to the wedding dinner.
Furthermore, he mentioned that it became evident last spring that the friendship between the couples was deteriorating when the Sussexes were not included in the guest list for Brooklyn Beckham's wedding - but Prince William and Kate Middleton were.
In his book released on June 20, Bower claimed Meghan saw herself as higher up the social ladder than the Beckhams and was miffed to find out that despite her royal status, Victoria was ahead in terms of wealth and fame.
