Meghan Markle was seen gathering her personal items as the Sussexes made their final exit from Frogmore Cottage, surrendering the keys one year ago.
Frogmore Cottage marked the beginning of married life for Prince Harry and Meghan within the Royal walls. Gifted by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2019, the couple undertook an extensive independent renovation of the residence after initial public funding sparked controversy, resulting in them fully reimbursing the expenditure.
Their stay at the five-bed abode was fleeting; by the end of 2019, they declared their intent to step back from Royal duties, departing in 2020.
The pair have since relocated to Montecito, California, where they've openly critiqued the Royal family in numerous interviews with US media, fuelling ongoing tensions.
Prince Harry seems to have settled well into his American life, although he dashed back to Britain to see his father upon hearing of Charles's cancer but missed visiting during a trip for the Invictus Games ceremony in May, reports the Mirror.
Last June, Meghan revealed the reality of packing up at Frogmore Cottage, including coming across a diary that took her by surprise with its contents as she spoke to The Cut. "You go back and you open drawers and you're like, Oh my gosh. This is what I was writing in my journal there? "
Her recollections raised speculations on further potential disclosures.
It was only a year later that the Sussexes finally surrendered the keys to their cottage. In his explosive autobiography 'Spare', Prince Harry asserted that he and Meghan were "evicted" from Frogmore Cottage following their choice to step back from Royal duties, with Charles directing them to vacate.
The pair's belongings were subsequently sent to California,
