Charna Flam Mia Goth returns to Ti West’s “X” trilogy in the official trailer for A24’s “MaXXXine.” After both “X” and “Pearl” premiered in 2022, “MaXXXine” will conclude the horror series on July 5. Goth is joined in “MaXXXine” by Kevin Bacon, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey and Giancarlo Esposito.
The film’s official synopsis from A24 reads: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.” Goth revealed someinformation about the film to Variety in January, saying: “It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point.
So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.” West and Goth’s horror series kicked off with “X,” which followed a group of amateur filmmakers trying to make a porn movie at an isolated cabin. “Pearl,” the prequel, explored the cabin owner’s origin story, from longing to be a star in the budding film industry to eventually submitting to her killer desires.
West, Jacob Jaffke, Harrison Kreiss and Kevin Turen serve as producers of the slasher franchise. Watch the full trailer for “Maxxxine” below.

Dennis Harvey Film Critic At their least, the myriad serial-killer movies that followed in the imitative wake of “Se7en” three decades ago have gotten the grisly part down, but find compelling suspense, atmospherics and original narrative ideas harder to come by. Such is certainly the case with “Damaged,” which serves up a considerable number of victims’ severed limbs, yet is likely to leave scant impression — scarring or otherwise — on the viewer. MaXXXine has just dropped, and it promises a violent, mysterious and action-packed ending to Ti West’s popular horror trilogy. The third installment in West’s horror series starring English actor Mia Goth is set to be released in July, and is set about six years after the events of X.The trilogy began in 2022 with X, the slasher film which follows the cast and crew working on a pornographic film in Texas who find themselves threatened by a homicidal an elderly couple.Released six months later was Pearl, which told the origin story for the villain who would commit violent murderous acts at her Texan family home in 1918.Now, a direct sequel to X is underway, with Goth reprising her role as Maxine Minx, and co-producing the film. The trailer shows former porn-star Maxine attempting to start a career as an actress in movies. Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the film is set to explore Maxine’s journey to fame and success, as well as her attempt to avoid a serial killer attacking people in Hollywood. The film, which has been produced by the studio known for Hereditary and Midsommar, as well as the previous two films in the trilogy, A24.The cast features a number of major Hollywood stars, including The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan and Bobby Cannavale, along with appearances from Lily Collins, Halsey, Kevin Bacon and Giancarlo Esposito. The trilogy has been highly critically acclaimed, with Goth’s performance receiving high praise.
It’s wild to see a jumping-around-in-time horror franchise come together at A24 and one that’s not even built on a title brand at the same time. Written and directed by horror filmmaker Ti West, “MaXXXine” is the third and final (?) installment in his slasher trilogy that began with “X” and “Pearl.” “X” was basically a kind of sexploitation horror/cautionary tale about fame set in the late 1970s about a cast and crew who gather to make a pornographic film on an elderly couple’s rural Texas property, but things go horribly awry.
