A Marks and Spencer store in Manchester city centre has suddenly closed its doors. The M&S Simply Food store that has now permanently closed is situated beside Piccadilly Gardens and the bus station, on the corner of Parker Street and Mosley Street.
Shoppers are now greeted with a message on the walls of the building informing them that the store has closed. The other nearest M&S is the huge store at the bottom of Market Street. There is also a Simply Food store at Piccadilly train station.
The reason for its closure has not yet been confirmed, but pictures taken on Sunday (August 6) show the now empty unit with a message that reads: "Goodbye and thank you from everyone at Manchester Piccadilly. Your nearest store is M&S Market Street."

The news of the store's closure comes as the retailer announced earlier this year its plans to open 20 new shops across the UK - including two in Greater Manchester.
A huge new food hall opened up in Stockport in June and it was also revealed that M&S would be opening a new 'megastore' in the Trafford Centre, taking over the huge Debenhams unit that has sat empty since 2021.
Further details about the retailer's city centre store closure has not yet been revealed. Marks and Spencer has been approached for comment.
