Marcus Rashford says summer arrivals Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez are all versatile and capable of playing in a several different positions.
Erik ten Hag’s preference for versatility is no secret, having attained a number of players who can play in different positions during his time at Ajax. So it came as no surprise to see the Reds boss bring Martinez to Manchester United. Martinez is a specialist centre-back but also has experience at left-back and in holding midfield.
Eriksen is predominantly an attacking midfielder but showed at Brentford he can occupy a slightly deeper role if required. And Malacia could easily operate as a wing-back as well as his more traditional left-back position.

Rashford has noted the fluidity of the trio and also the calmness they possess on the ball, which is also a signature trait Ten Hag looks for in players. Speaking to club media, Rashford said: “It’s always a great feeling, it brings something new and fresh to the squad and new ideas. I think it’s a big positive for us.
“They’re all adaptable players and they can play in different systems, different roles. I’m looking forward to playing with them and seeing what we can do together. They all bring something a little bit different and also off the pitch they bring something new to the dressing room. It's important because it's a long season and you need each other to keep each other going so hopefully they'll bring that off the pitch.
“On the pitch I think they’re all comfortable players, all comfortable on the ball. We’re looking forward to playing with the new players."
