Manchester waters: Plans for 159 waterside homes with rooftop terrace approved

Plans for 159 homes in two blocks - with a rooftop terrace - between the Bridgewater Canal and Manchester Ship Canal, have been approved. The scheme for the area which has been named Manchester Waters submitted by land and property giant Peel, was given the go-ahead by Tafford council.
The one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments will be split across two buildings, overlooking both historic canals, and all the homes will have a waterfront view. As part of the project, Peel Waters will make a financial contribution equivalent to 20 per cent affordable housing in Trafford and further contributions will be made towards green spaces and schools in the local area.
Peel says health, wellness, access to nature and spaces to socialise in are at the forefront of residential development at Manchester Waters which has been designed by AHR architects. A communal rooftop terrace above the entrance to the site will offer residents exceptional views onto the Manchester Ship Canal and a vibrant and welcoming residents’ courtyard garden will offer extra outdoor space for residents to relax in, say Peel.

A new residents’ gym and yoga studio overlooking the water will be one of many amenities future residents. Peel also says sustainability is at the heart of the design and a 'fabric first approach' will be used to reduce carbon emissions.
Alongside this, heat pumps and solar panels will generate energy on site and will be complemented by a heat recovery system, making the buildings highly efficient. Active travel options will be encouraged at the development through the provision of 159 cycle parking spaces in secure and well-lit on-site cycle parking hubs.
