Former centre-back John O'Shea believes Manchester United will face an "uphill task" to secure a top-four finish if they fail to beat Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
United, who beat Spurs 3-0 when the two sides met in north London back in October, will lock horns with Antonio Conte's side just two points ahead of them in the table. But United can ill-afford to remain downbeat as Saturday's clash with Spurs is likely to play a pivotal role in their ambitions of securing top level European football for next season. And former defender O'Shea has reminded United of the importance of the Tottenham game and the second leg in the Champions League last 16 against Atletico Madrid.
"Yes, they're huge, huge games," O’Shea told MUTV. "I don't want to say season-defining but it's getting to that point because if you don't get the maximum points against Tottenham, it's really an uphill task to get into that Champions League spot.
"Obviously, the Champions League is huge for the club. Who knows what can happen if you get past Atletico?
