Scotland continued to experience scorching heat on Tuesday, as the country's temperature hits a record breaking high of above 34C. While the weather outside is glorious, being indoors in stifling heat can be rather uncomfortable, especially when trying to sleep or take refuge from the searing sun.
Luckily, there are many ways you can keep your house cool during a heatwave and one man has shared his free hack to cool down your home. All you need is a wet towel.
According to laundry expert Deyan Dimitrov, all you need to do is soak some towels in some cold water before placing them in strategic locations around your house. Doing this will help keep air cool, making being inside a breeze.
Deyan, who is the founder of LaundryHeap, explained that the best way to make the hack most effective is to hang cold, wet towels around the home at entry points such as windows and doors, to cool down the property, the Mirror reports.
He said: “The method allows trapped water to evaporate from the surface of the towels and cool the air flowing around your house. Since this hack can be fashioned out of existing household items, it’s a cheap and useful alternative for houses that don’t have access to air conditioning.”
As the trick only requires towels, which most people will have at home already, and tap water, the hack will cost you almost nothing and could help you cool down in no time. However, it's important to use freshly washed towels for the hack, as dirty ones will fill your house with a damp and unpleasant smell.
If you want to add an extra layer of freshness to your towels, you can also add a few drops of essential oils such as lavender to the softener compartment of the washing machine when washing your towels.
