A hotelier was left in a pool of blood after an 'extremely disturbing' attack on Blackpool Promenande that was filmed and shared widely on social media. Dennis Grainger, 45, was alone on the Promenade on Wednesday morning (August 31) when he was beaten before a bag on his back was stolen, LancsLive reports.
Police said the 'defenceless' victim suffered broken bones as well as serious cuts and bruises before being taken to hospital. One senior officer, who reviewed the footage, said he was lucky to survive the assault, which she described as one of the most horrific in her 29 years of policing.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with robbery following the incident. He appeared before Blackpool Magistrates Court on Thursday and is next due to appear at Blackpool Youth Court on September 15.

A girl of the same age, who is believed to have filmed the incident, was later arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob. The attack took place near to the RNLI lifeboat station on Blackpool Promenade.

Speaking about the incident, Det Supt Becky Smith said the attack was 'extremely disturbing'. She said: “The level of violence displayed by this suspect against a completely defenceless man who is sat down minding his own business is quite frankly extremely disturbing and inexcusable."
