A man has died in a horrific car crash after his vehicle 'drove off' a 150ft cliff face.
Emergency services raced to the incident in Kingsdown, Deal, on Monday, May 29. Fire services, ambulance, police, air ambulance and coastguard's search and rescue were seen at a beach near Undercliffe Road.
Police investigating the incident confirmed the collision involved one single vehicle. A holidaymaker at Kingsdown Campsite described the scene as "hectic", as the sound of sirens could be heard as emergency vehicles raced to the scene.
The village lies between Dover and Deal and is busy with visitors as the holiday season gets underway.
Today, a spokesman for Kent Police told Kent Live: "We were called to a report of a single vehicle collision at 2.45pm on Sunday. Officers along with other emergency services attended the Kingsdown beach area of Deal.
"The occupant of the vehicle, a man in his fifties, was confirmed deceased. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "Coastguard Rescue Teams from Deal and Langdon responded to an incident at the cliffs at Kingsdown near Deal yesterday.
"The alarm was raised at about 2.55pm, with Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service also alerted. The RNLI’s inshore lifeboat from Walmer attended. The Kent air ambulance was sent to the scene. The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was dispatched from Lydd, but later stood down and returned to base."
The fire service said it had been called to the incident by paramedics from the ambulance services. It sent three appliances and firefighters helped at the scene. The "duty of care" was passed to Kent
