Manchester City fans may have had their first unofficial glimpse at one of the club’s new change strips for next season.
City have had many eye-catching designs over the years and are always keen to pay homage to its history. For instance, this season’s home strip was designed in commemoration of their ten-year anniversary of winning the 2012 title - their first of the Premier League era.
City also bring back a variation of their red and black striped away kit every few years. And it looks like the colours could make a return next season, with a slight twist.

Manchester Confidential have tweeted what they believe are pictures of a photoshoot of the 2022/23 Puma away strip. Instead of vertical stripes, fans could see first team players don a diagonal pattern when away from home.
The last time the red and black stripes were seen was in the 2011/12 title-winning season. The history behind the colours stretches back to 1968 when City manager Malcolm Allison wanted the club to adopt them as their away colours to replicate AC Milan, who had won the Serie A title and European Cup Winners’ Cup that year.
He believed the kit would give him an edge over their opponents, stirring fear in them. City fans were initially unhappy but the club would lift the 1969 FA Cup in red and black before winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup 12 months later.
New away colours were introduced from the 1970s but the shades of red and black have seemingly brought luck to the team. The club won promotion to the Premier League in 2000 with the design as their away kit and while the change strip returned for City’s 2012 inaugural Premier League success.
