A man has been left fighting for his life and a woman has been arrested following an incident in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of the morning.
Police descended on the city's waterfront after a horrific crash between a taxi and an Audi TT. Merseyside police said the white TT came to the attention of officers at around 1.10am 'travelling at speed.'
Soon after, the Audi crashed into a private hire taxi on the Strand. The taxi then crashed into a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries. His condition is described as critical, police said.

The taxi driver, a man in his 50s, also required treatment for neck injuries. Merseyside Police said efforts are ongoing to locate the Audi driver, who they said ran off on foot following the crash, while a passenger was detained at the scene, the ECHO reports.
A 53-year-old woman from Southport was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and has been taken into custody for questioning.
The Strand is closed in both directions between James Street and Chapel Street while officers continue to work at the scene. These road closures may affect other areas of the city centre and drivers are advised to find alternative routes.
It comes as thousands of people are expected to descend on the city ahead of the Labour Party Conference, which officially starts on Sunday (October 8).
People living in a block of flats inside the cordon have been told they can't leave their homes due to the police scene.
