Matt Pilmoor has shared that he struggles to "comprehend" how his Married At First Sight co-star Brad Skelly treated girlfriend Shona Manderson on the show. The window cleaner, 29, embarked on a romance with Shona after they had both left the show, and is still going strong with the yoga instructor today.
However, before her relationship with Matt, Shona was matched with model Brad, who was later accused of being "controlling" towards her - and the couple eventually being asked to leave the show due to their 'unhealthy' and 'toxic' relationship. Chatting exclusively to OK! about what it was like to watch the scenes back, Matt shared: "I couldn’t believe what happened to Shona when she was with Brad, it was behaviour from him that I couldn’t comprehend." Matt also admits he didn't enjoy watching the start of Shona and Brad's relationship, which saw their instant connection lead to a lot of PDA.
"When I watched Shona [with Brad] in my head I was thinking, “Aw, what are you doing? You’ve known him for about two days"," he laughed. Later in the series, Brad was seen telling Shona to "shut up" during a cast dinner party, while others picked up on worrying behaviours from him.
He also commented that he "allowed" his new wife to feel all of the emotions she wanted, as their relationship hit bumps in the road. Those distressing scenes led to the domestic violence charity Women's Aid making an official statement, with Teresa Parker, head of media at the charity, telling The Tab , "It is really important that the experts on the show called this out as controlling behaviour and challenged Brad’s view that it was acceptable to say that he had the right to 'allow' Shona to be angry.
