Speaking on his Youtube show FIVE, Ferdinand said: “He (McClaren) understands the makeup of Man United when they were successful. He still understands what the demands are at the club.
“It’s like David Moyes comes to Man United. No one on his team knows what it’s like to be at a club of the magnitude of Man United - then you have to react when you get in there when you haven’t got an understanding of being at a big club, the size of that club.”
He added: “I think (McClaren) is a good addition. He knows the steps, knows what a winning culture looks like.
“He can bring that and point them in the right direction. I think he goes in there as a sounding board.”
